Krista Brennan

  • Krista is a Senior Tutor and Student Liaison Officer at Sydney Art School.

    Krista is a qualified Trainer and Assessor and holds the qualifications
    Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts & Certificate IV in Training & Assessment

  • Her specialist medium is watercolour, tackling a diverse range of subjects and styles with her bold, intense, realistic approach. Her commissioned works include books, card games, portraits and landscapes.

    She is a passionate artist and enthusiastic tutor, dedicated to supporting her students in achieving their artistic goals.

Peter Mackie

  • Peter Mackie is a senior tutor at Sydney Art School.

    He is a qualified trainer and assessor and holds a Bachelor of Design and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

  • Peter has over 30 years experience as a designer, commercial artist and art director. Working in both traditional and digital mediums he has created design and illustrations for organisations large and small.

Samantha Wiltshire

  • Sam's students benefit from her exceptionally strong skills in drawing and painting.

    She has won the Hornsby Art Prize Emerging Artists Award & was First Place in the Hornsby Young Artists Competition.

    Samantha holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (specialising painting and drawing) and a Bachelor of Arts with Class 1 Honours in History.  She is also a qualified training and assessor under the Australian Qualifications Framework and is one of our Student Liaison Officers for Diploma students.

Matthew Weatherstone

  • Matthew is a Senior Tutor at Sydney Art School.

    He is a qualified trainer and assessor and holds an 
    Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts and a 
    Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.

  • As a professional artist his consistent success in commission sales and exhibitions enable him to provide insights to his students.

    As an artist his strong technical skills are evident in his work - but are balanced with a highly developed approach to the concept and messages that is being communicated to the viewer.

Cristina Aura

Cristina Aura

  • Cristina is a Senior Tutor at Sydney Art School and a qualified Trainer and Assessor.

    She holds a
    Masters Degree in Painting from the prestigious 'Ion Andreescu' Institute for Visual Arts and a
    Bachelor of Adult education.

  • Cristina will improve your skills to a level you never thought possible.  Her attention to detail is second to none.

Christina Rogers

  • Christina left her role as a Commercial Operations Manager in the end of 2011 to pursue intensive training in drawing and painting.

    She is currently building a career as a portrait artist and painter of bespoke commissions.

    Her main focus is on portraiture, working mostly from life, using oils in the Alla Prima method. She enjoys the challenge of capturing the observable, the hidden and the inferred, as evidenced in a sitter’s face and environment.

    While classically trained in Sydney and London, she adds her own expressive touches to her works - combining the real with the imagined and experiments with different media. She also paints landscapes, still life and large abstract works. 

Michael Simms

  •  Michael Simms is a multi-award winning artist based in Sydney. Born in Adelaide, he completed degrees in psychology and film at Flinders University.

    Michael's art demonstrates an deep command of classical skills combined with a contemporary perspective on his subjects.

    For any student he provides a strong ability to help you develop your technique and approach to art as well as practical guidance on developing your career as a professional artis.

Jackson Davies

  • Jackson is a Senior Tutor at Sydney Art School

    He holds a
    Bachelor of Fina Arts and a 
    Master of Cultural Materials Conservation

  • Jackson has been a finalist and semi-finalist in the Doug Moran and Mosman Art Prizes, and a Winner of the Northern Beaches Art Prize. Jackson has held residencies in Sweden and Portugal and his work appears in private collections around Australia.

    Jackson Davies is an oil painter based in Sydney. He is inspired by the face and the figure, and predominantly works from life to create paintings that are contemplative and emotive, with a depth of mystery

Sue Ashpole

  • After initially building a succesful career in the corporate sector Sue has moved into the world of visual arts where she has specialised in pottery and silver jewellery.

    Sue has been Certified as an Advanced Instructor and assessor for Art Clay Silver and also tutors children's classes in painting and drawing.

    Sue also holds the position of Studio Manager at Sydney Art School.

Jules Read

  • Jules is a silversmith and jeweller.

    Metal Clay & Silversmithing are her two artist passions.  Jules uses a variety of traditional techniques in her work but her favourite things to create is mixed medium pieces made from both metal clay & precious metals such as sterling silver & gold.

    Teaching & sharing her jewellery passion enables her to interact with people who love what she loves & that's such a beautiful thing.

Olena Kosenko

  • Artist ... turned succesful designer/businesswoman ... turned artist ... as a role model and mentor Olena has a great deal to offer for both young and mature students of art.

    Olena is a consultant tutor and course Director for Children's Classes at Sydney Art School.

    Her list of awards is impressive and grows at a rate faster than we can keep up with.

    Her style while grounded in classical fine arts is distinctly contemporary displaying strong design skills often using architectural or industrial subjects with surreal interpretations. 

Kristin Hardiman

  • Kristin Hardiman is one of Australia’s leading portrait and equine artists and is an Exhibiting Member of the Portrait Artists Australia.  Her awards include:

    • Finalist Clifton Art Prize 2016
    • Finalist Gallipoli Memorial Prize 2016, 2015, 2013
    • Finalist Portia Geach Memorial Prize 2014
    • Winner International Inglis Equine Art Prize 2011

    She holds a Diploma Fine Arts and Education from the Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education (now The University of NSW Art and Design) and has been working as a professional artist and teacher for nearly 30 years.

    Kristin is also an Assessor and senior tutor.

    What is the Job Profile?

    Shift days available: Weekday afternoons/evenings & Saturdays
    Studio Locations: Hornsby, Baulkham Hills, Epping
    Student age range: 5 to 15
    Pay Range: $25 – $45 per hour
    Typical Class Duration: 1.5 hours (minimum 3-hour shift)
    Weekly hours: Ranging from 4 up to 24 hours

    What are the qualities we are looking for?

    Experience in art and/or education. You will need skills in painting and drawing that may have been gained in HSC art or other courses in the Visual Arts. Formal qualifications or enrolment in related undergraduate level courses are well regarded.
    You will need to be friendly and a good communicator. On a regular basis you will give directions to students, converse with parents, and collaborate with other tutors at the school.
    Fluency in English is essential, but the ability to speak another language is a benefit as the school attracts students from a wide variety of cultures.
    Punctuality and reliability are essential. Students and parents expect classes to start and finish on time.
    Being organised but flexible is important. Week by week you will work through a structured set of lesson plans and can adapt your approach based on the ability of your students and the personal knowledge and skills you bring to the table.

    He once rode a motorcylce around Australia ... funding his trip by by paintings he created sold and bartered during his 9 month adventure.

    Back in the studio Gary has an ability to help his students discover to a new way of seeing and representing their subject matter in their own artistic style.
