Portrait Drawing

Drawing the likeness of another person is a skill sought after by many artists and admired by all people.

The skill of drawing a portrait can be learnt and developed.  These art classes will establish and develop the fundamental principles that form the foundation of being a good portrait artist. 

Overview of this Art Class

In this course you will learn:

  • The dimensions and proportions of the head and face
  • How to create a likeness of your subject
  • Tips and hints to mastering facial features,  eyes, nose, mouth, ears and eyebrows
  • Shading and shadowing to create realism and interest

 This course will also continue to develop your skills and techniques in observational drawing.

Analysis and breakdown of the individual features will be an integral part of the class, with special emphasis being placed upon their relation to the whole. Structural concepts such as planes and construction will be emphasized, as well as the techniques of tonal drawing.  

 Observation of shapes and the identification of the unique character of each model/photo will be taught as a means of capturing a likeness.

Use the list in the Resource Kit shown as a guideline for the materials you will need.

If you already have some materials don't feel the need to rush out and buy any more.  Just bring them to your first class and your tutor will give advice on what additional materials you will need.

If you don't have any materials the resource kit shown has been selected to provide the essential materials with good quality at an affordable price.   When you order online the kit will be prepared and be ready for you at your next class (please allow 2 days notice).
