VET Student Loans - Student Entry Process
In accordance with the VET Student Loans Act 2016, all students wishing to apply for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan must meet academic suitability requirements to undertake a higher level VET qualification.
This is a student protection measure introduced by the Commonwealth Government from 1 January 2017.
This procedure applies to all students, eligible to receive VET Student Loan assistance, into approved courses offered by Sydney Art School.
This process is used in conjunction with the Enrolment Policy and Application Procedure. This academic assessment is in addition to any entry requirements that may be required for the specific course you are undertaking. In high demand courses where there are more applicants than there are available places, there may also be additional selection criteria.
PLEASE NOTE:
VET student loans will not be approved for students who do not meet eligibility requirements.
The process for assessing a student's competence in reading and numeracy will be conducted with honesty and integrity.
Assessing your academic suitability
You will need to be assessed by Sydney Art School as academically suited to undertake the
course to access a VET Student Loan for that course.
To be assessed as academically suited, you must provide either:
- a copy of your Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (year 12 Certificate) OR
- evidence of successful completion of an Australian Qualification Framework (AQF)
Certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English).
If you do not have an Australian year 12 Certificate or have not successfully completed an AQF Certificate IV or higher qualification, you must sit an approved Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test and be assessed as competent at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy.
SAS uses the approved BKSB Live online resource and will advise you how you may undertake this assessment. We will inform you of your results as soon as practicable after the assessment. A copy of your results will be stored for five years after you enrol and may be provided to the Commonwealth if requested.
*In NSW, you may obtain a copy of your Higher School Certificate from 1967 onwards for a cost of $42.50. Delivery is within 7-10 days, with an option for priority delivery at a higher fee.
